Frequently Asked Questions

How do I get started?

Please begin by calling (720-504-5557) or emailing (jocelyn@drjocelyn.com) me to set up a 15 minute free telephone consultation. We will discuss your needs and determine whether my approach will work for you. If we decide to move forward together, we will schedule an initial consultation to further review your goals. If my approach is not the right fit for you, I am happy to provide you with appropriate referrals in the community.

What ages do you typically see?

I am trained to work with individuals of any age, although I have specialized training with children, adolescents, couples, and families. Sometimes parents wonder whether their child is too young for therapy and the answer is "no." In my work with children, I'm inevitably working with their parents. I strongly believe that all families can benefit from the skills I teach, regardless of the age of their children. In terms of ADHD evaluations, most children aren't assessed until they are school age, but often, ADHD can be diagnosed earlier. I provide evaluations for children as young as 4 years old.

Do you accept insurance?

I am an out-of-network provider and do not directly participate in any health networks or insurance plans due to the limitations they impose on treatment, as well as threats to client confidentiality. However, many insurance companies provide a portion or full level of reimbursement for out-of-network, doctoral-level, licensed clinical psychologists. I can provide you with a superbill for submission to your insurance if requested.

The therapy is for my child. Do I need to come to sessions too?

I ask that parents/guardians be present for the initial session because we will be covering a lot of information (e.g., reason for seeking therapy, treatment goals, medical and developmental history, academic performance, family psychological history, etc.). I also ask that parents be present for a brief check-in at the start of each session. At times, I may ask parents to stay for the entire session, but we can usually plan ahead for those sessions.

How often are sessions held and how long does therapy last?

Psychotherapy sessions are usually held weekly, although I may recommend meeting more or less frequently based on your particular needs and overall progress. Often, we will start with weekly therapy sessions and taper off to every other week and then monthly check-ins as you near the end of treatment. The duration of treatment varies, depending on a number of factors, including the presenting issues, the frequency of sessions, and most importantly, your investment outside of sessions. My most motivated clients often find they accomplish their goals more quickly than expected.

What are your fees?

My practice is fee for service, meaning payment is due at the end of each session in the form of cash, check, or credit card. Initial consultations and ongoing psychotherapy appointments are 50 minutes each and billed at a fee of $200. ADHD evaluations are billed at a flat rate of $1,000. My fees are comparable to other doctoral-level psychologists in Denver with a similar level of training and expertise.
